SD Card (The media is write protected)
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:12:21 PM »
I'm new to this kind of thing and everytime that I try to personalize my profile or try to update the new version on my SD card it says error and (the media write is protected.
Do I need a specific type of SD card and reader/writer?I picked up one from the local wal-mart.

Ogeecheedawg,

Welcome to the forum.  Most likely the write protect slide on the SD card got accidentally moved to the locked position.  Just slide it back and you should be fine.

However, I do recommend purchasing a better SD card like the sands extreme III.  The perform extremely better when recording on the unit, and tend to be much higher in quality.

Do some searches here on the forum for SD card and you will find a lot of good reading.

Hope that helps.

I tried that and I even went and bought a better card but it's doing the same thing.

What are you doing when you get this error?  Is this on the unit or when you are in Humminbird PC?

Have you tried formatting the card?  And what brand and size card are you using?  Is it SDHC and do you have an SDHC card reader?

It is in Humminbird PC when this problem occurs.Whenever I try to personalize the text on the SD card it throws the error and I was trying to load the new upgrade to the card and it throws the error.
It is a 4gb SDHC Optima card and the Card reader/writer is sd/sdhc/mmc capable.

Try again but with a different memory card.  We recommend the SanDisk brand as they follow the SD Card Associations specifications (not all SD memory card manufactures do).

What version of HumminbirdPC are you running?

You can download the software directly to the SD card and not use HumminbirdPC at all.

Upgrade to the unit should always be the sd card first....unless you do not have a unit with sd.
then you will have to use the HBPC connection....

What software do you have on your PC?
I saw another post where a guy had the 64bit version of Win 7 Pro and had similar problems with the new version of HB PC.  (I think the application was locking up on him when trying to write a file.)

I think he was able to get around it by somehowe running the app in 32 bit mode.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**
