Cheap Hook Keepers
« on: June 06, 2012, 10:23:46 AM »
Do not remember where I viewed this idea, finally remembered it and tried it today and I like it better then the commercial hook keepers. They are plastic wire ties with a screw hole. The Del City 9653 Cable Ties- Mounting Tab- UV Black - 9", 100 Pieces sell for appx. $5.60 depending on where you get them. Should be able to get them from Lowes or Home Depot and on line.

What is nice about these keepers you can put them wherever you want and if you change your mind cut them off and do it again.

George, that is a great idea.  I am on the way to Lowes in a bit so will  look at getting a package. This will be great especially for our surf fishing poples.

Thanks and a top of the hat to you..

Yea Chuck I wish I had known about them when I was fishing for Tuna.

It has been several years since I read about using the wire ties, I only remembered it because I was going thru my Humminbird installation stuff and there were a few of the wire ties with a screw hole and for whatever reason a number of my expensive rods do not have hook keepers and I remembered the tip.

Yep.   My surf rods do not have any hook keepers.  This will be great for them.  I have already sent my brother in law the picture.  He was excited also and says thanks..
I also have a bag of them now thanks to you.  Tonight I will put them on the rods...

One of the things I thought about was that if you had a multi-hook rig more then one one wire tie could be used.  The bottom one would be permanent and the others could slide on the shaft  to hold the hooks.

Good idea. We use a two hook leader for bottom fishing.  This will work great.  I am so glad you posted this...
Actually I will have three on a rod.  The bottom weight clip, the 1st hook and the second hook.

George, I put three ties on the 13 foot rod and wow, what a difference this will make.  We take the rods to the beach and they are in two or three sections depending on lenght. So we dont have hooks on them at that time.  But once at the beach house we put them together and they stay that way unit time to go home.  Now we can keep the leaders on and go back and forth to the beach.

thanks a bunch.  this will make the next trip a good trip..
