Have had my 898c si for a couple years now and have not updated any software on it. how do i find out what version it is running and what is the latest version for that unit???? thanks ok so i found out that im running version 6.18. how and what should i upgrade it to?

I would take it to 6.490.  It should be in the download section on here.

If you register your unit on the Humminbird web site it will show the current software version for your unit.  Not everyone agrees that this is the best software to use though.

DON'T....Nothing but problems if you update. I would give ANYTHING to be able to go back to 6.1. Stay where you are on the software.. And wait till you lose your GPS puck (which I hope you don't). Then the only version software you can run is 6.740 with the new puck. And away goes everything, except your time spent on the phone with CS.
