2 Transducer Diagram Needed
« on: May 24, 2012, 03:22:58 PM »
Attn. Greg or anyone....could you post a wiring diagram for a two transducer system for my 1198 on here.  I am adding the 2D transducer to the one that ships with the 1198 ( S I Transducer ).

Thanks

Is there one that allows you to share a single transducer say a DB with two units? Knowing of course you would probably have to turn off the sonar on one unit while using it on another.  I know the pinning in the connectors is different for an SI and a DB so you can't use the SI DB.. or do you need to use a switch .

What exactly are you trying to do here bobby?

Are you wanting both units to be able to use the DualBeam transducer?

If so, are they both Side Imaging units and are you wanting to use the Side Imaging on each unit and if so will this be by using the AS-Si-DB-Y cable on each unit or a Transducer Switch?

They are both SI units.  I have a 997 up front that when I backtroll or work from the transom deck I will move it to the rear so I don't have to turn around to see my reading on the main console 1198.  I have two transducers used by the 1198, SI and Quad beam.  Quad beam is so I can run high speed.  It feeds the 1198 and I select it prior to running so as not to lose bottom lock.  Want y cable into the rear mounted 997 for "sharing" the quad beam with the 1198 so I don't have to put a third DB on the transom. I'd turn off the sonar on the unit not in use.  Figure I need a switch $$$ but then I already have a thru hull SI that I could mount but couldn't find a place to mount the ducer where cutting a hole wouldn't be impossible.

So you want to be use the QuadraBeam and HDSi transducers that are currently connected to the 1198 unit with the 997 unit, correct?  If so, than all you would have to do is install a US3 Unit Switch between the AS-Si-DB-Y cable and the 1198 unit.  One cable would go to the 1198 unit and the other to the 997’s transom deck location.

OK, so the switch would accommodate both transducers, I figured the switch would only allow the switching of one transducer, and then also wasn't sure it would work with the newer units.  I'll check the cost of the switch related to another thru hull DB.  As I said the thru hull SI that I have is just way too big for my boat.  Thanks for the advice.

Greg, do you have or can you get a pinout for the US3 cable?

bobby,
The switches are expensive but not as much as a new HDSi transducer.
The switch, and your unit, do not see two transducers when using either another switch or the AS-Si-DB-Y cable (or even the AS-Si-LR-Y cable).  The unit only sees one transducer connected to it.

Chuck

I don’t have one Chuck but may be able to come up with the information in a few weeks when my training class schedule slows down (I hope…).  What are you looking for this information for?  All the switches do is swap one transducer (or unit) connection with another one.  The new TS3 and US3 switches we make now use a relay to do the actual connections so it can both help shield the connections and make it so the actual toggle can be mounted in more locations than before.

Just curious as to the directional connection. Normally it is to connect two transducers to a single unit. Since this is in the reverse direction was looking for the actual data flow by wire.

It is the same as the Transducer Switch Chuck except that there are two unit (male) connectors coming from the switch box and one transducer (female) connector going to the switch box.

I know the physical connection just curious as to the actual wires and data flow.
How do the two units know and select only one transducer. Are both transducer transmitting on the same pair or only the selcted one. When selecting one transducer over the other does that in effect shut off the other transducer..
Pictures tell a thousand words but in this case a wiring diagram would certainly help.
Would be nice if HB would include that on their web page of the accessory.
Is the diagram secret?

what is confusing me is the US3 has two female connectors to be used to connect to transducers. And a single  male connector to connect to the unit.
If we reverse the connections and attempt to  plug into the unit that will place two female connectors trying to go together. That wont make a connection.
Or am I not seeing something here.

OK sorting this out...I was confused with US3 and TS3.......

I see the application, but this means only one unit will have sonar at any given time...

 ;D

I got confused between Calli1 and Bobbies post..
