pics were taken on a large kayak. in a aussie freshwater river, fish were plentyful but were just darn catfish (ours are have sharp spines on them)

settings were 455mhz and sharpness was up a bit, chart speed was 1.

To be honest i was just as impressed with the 2d sonar as i was the side scan.

after 7hrs on the water in summer on a 90-95F day paddleing all day doing a touch under 10miles pedaling i can barely walk and have severe sunburn on my legs (starting to blister) but i will be back out next weekend. This time targeting snags hunting barra (i was just trolling)

here is pic of a barra cought on kayak the same as mine (hobie pro angler) please not these fish will grow alot bigger

Here is pic of a fish cought a few weeks ago in a comp in teh same river i fish in. Please note it didn't even win biggest fish

Greg could u tell me what the bottom is in a few of the pics.

Yea 4ft is a big fish but have been known to grow to 5ft+
1ft-3ft is common and make great game fish.

Don’t think that I can gros21.  I don’t fish those waters and I have not seen anything like the bottom in pics 7, 8 and 10, so I would not know for sure.  Most look like a sandy type bottom but there are some with rocks of other hard type projections (coral?).  A lot of sonar interpretation is being somewhat familiar with the bottom composition of the lake or body of water that you are on.

Using sonar is an art. the more you use it the better you get. Also it is good to have someone who knows the particular bottom and let them look at the displays with you. (recordings) A map and track are good reference to make sure you know just hwre you are and how the layout of bottom is physically.
In search and recovery most targets are identified by the unusual image as compared to normal bottom "stuff"
