Title: Interlink and Ethernet
Post by: lcookie on December 18, 2011, 01:44:28 PM
More of a vent than a post.  How is it that the interlink can share the axillary add on modules but the Ethernet cable can't?  With this being the case why automatically disable the interlink connection when an Ethernet connection is established instead of being able to have both given the current limitations?  Lastly, why not automatically disable the Ethernet network when the Ethernet connection is broken instead of having to reset to defaults?  Anyone heard if this will be addressed in a future software update?

lcookie,
I agree with all your points......unfortunately, the facts seem to be that the interlink is being phased out.
Next year HB is coming out with a new ethernet hub that will interface a lot more things and support for the interlink is probably going to be low on HB's priority list.

I’m guessing at the following answers so don’t take them for fact or that I know of some upcoming software update – because I don’t!

“How is it that the interlink can share the axillary add on modules but the Ethernet cable can't?”
It is my understanding that this has to do with the communications protocol (if that is the right word) that the “smart accessories”, like the WeatherSense, is using versus the GPS Receiver.  I am guessing that this will be changed in future software and accessories like the Ethernet hub.

“why automatically disable the interlink connection when an Ethernet connection is established instead of being able to have both”
I understand that this was necessary as most units could not run the sonar, GPS, Ethernet and InterLink all at the same time.

“Lastly, why not automatically disable the Ethernet network when the Ethernet connection is broken instead of having to reset to defaults?”
I don’t know about this.

“Anyone heard if this will be addressed in a future software update?”
I have not.

Bob B.,
This is next year for us!
The 2012 product year started in October…
The Ethernet hub is called the AS-ETH-5PS
