Title: Made Recordings... now what?
Post by: MTBob on May 10, 2013, 10:45:09 AM
I am really befuddled - I took my 998c out for it's first full day run (after fixing the wiring problem) and it worked GREAT!   An amazing system.   I've never used a chart plotter nor a SI/DI system before... and I'm really impressed.  And, amazingly, it appears that the transducers are set right - at least to my untrained eye.
So, I decided to make a recording of the day's travel and review the chart plot and DI/SI images on my home computer.
But, I've tried loading the recording into HumminbirdPC and can't get the recording to load.  The SD card shows about 900 MB of recordings, but after I upload the files nothing shows up in the HumminbirdPC program.  I've read the HB manuals on this subject, and reviewed postings on this forum - I just must be missing something really simple (overlooking the obvious?).
Any thoughts about what I'm doing wrong?

Bob,
HumminbirdPC is not made to view the sonar recordings.  You need to look at using one of the 3rd party viewing programs such as HummViewer.

Greg: OK, I now understand the function of HumminbirdPC, it's limited only to chart plotting functions, right?  But, I can't even get the waypoints to show up in HumminbirdPC... the program isn't recognizing anything.  I've uploaded the recording to the program, per instructions and a GPX file is generated.  But, there are no waypoints or tracks.  After I made the recording should I have "saved" it somehow from the commands on the Control Head?

Bob,
HBPC does not read the sonar recording files at all - so I'm not sure what you would have in your gpx file.
If you want your waypoints, tracks etc to show up in HBPC, you first need to export this data from your Humminbird unit - by default, this data will not have been copied to your card. Go to the nav menu, tracks/waypoints and select all/export - those menu options are a bit approximate, sorry :) Once you've done that (with your card in the slot), you should be able to put your card in your PC and have HBPC read that data.
