As i wait for my replacement unit to be sent out,I was wondering which SD card i should buy.What are you guys using?I think its awesome to be able to record your images while out fishing then come home and play them back on the computer.Do i need some kinda special program to view them on my pc?I was checking out the images you guys post and wow...I cant wait to get out there and see what i can find.I think I'm gonna spend more time playing with my unit then I'm gonna fishing lol....

Hi DD; I use 4-8 Gig SD card. Down load after each use.
Check out the 3rd party software link on this forum lots pf free downloads. Enjoy Roddy

I use Sand disk extreme III 8gig 30mb/sec. you could get by with smaller 4 or 6 gig.
stay with the extreme III 30mb/sec. or faster. I use Humviewer an yellow fin mostly.

Probably the size of the card is not important as the size of the recording.
For the best performance of recorded sonar and use with external programs (or for playback) try to keep the file size to under 30 minutes. You can make back to back recordings..

well a good question :D
1 giga byte is 1000 times 1 mega byte.
Now depending on the settings used for recording you can get a lot of recordings for 1gig.
If for example you ran 30 minutes and average 50 meg you could get 20 of these recordings on a card.
And that would be 10 hours of recording.
Ok, so this is all math.
but you can get a lot on 1 gig. Even more on 30 gig.
Keeping the record small is better for reviews and the programs used to look at the record.

The recording rate for our units is not fixed Rudiger so it is impossible to give an absolute answer to this. The memory used will vary with the water depth you are in, the Ping Rate you have selected (or the unit has selected) and even the speed of the memory card used will all affect this. Having said; someone here made some sonar recordings and we checked the memory used versus the time of the recording and figured that a 30 minute recording would take up about 168MB. As they say: “Your mileage may vary”.

Greg, I have a ton of 1197 recordings of 25 - 30 minutes and they average around 65 to 70 megabytes.....
You are correct, as I said, that settings can affect the total data size.
Still at 168 megabytes that would be almost 3 hours of recording...

Is that 65 to 70 MB or GB Chuck?
Hmmm, you could be right on my data Chuck. I based this off of a single test that resulted in a file of 56MB for a 10 minute recording. I didn’t make this recording so I don’t know what settings were used or anything other than the file size and time that I was told.
What have been other’s experiences as far as file sizes for 30 minute recordings?
