Title: 798 Ci SI Not reading Correctly!
Post by: pingman on August 19, 2013, 04:28:22 PM
I have a 798ci SI mounted on my console. It has a splitter cable ( been replaced) to a XP-9-20-T transducer mounted in the bilge and a XNT 9-SI-180-T mounted on the transom.  I have a 788 Ci mounted on the trolling motor to a XTM-9-20-T.  These units are connected to an AS interlink.

The 798 will not read depth or temp (temp not connected). The SI seems to work, but sonar is all "colors". The depth shows 4.2ft all the time and the temp does not show connected.

When I mount the 788 to the console, it sees the temp "connected" and the sonar is all colors.  The depth shows 3.7ft all the time, but no temp on either unit.

I replaced the splitter cable, because it was common to both transducers.  No change.

My questions.  Are both transducers bad?  Could it be the Interlink? What else can I check?  I'm attaching photos.  I was in about 10ft of water.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

pingman,
Try taking that AS-Si-DB-Y cable out again and plug each transducer directly into the 798ci Si unit and see what you get.  My guess is that the temperature in the XNT-9-Si-180-T transducer is out and the XP-9-20-T transducer has either failed or the mounting for it has failed, but testing each transducer separately will show us better than my guess will.  Oh, you may as well test your 788 unit with each transducer too while you have everything apart.

Thanks Greg.  I'll give you an update.
