Title: Transducer switch question
Post by: backlashed on February 23, 2014, 12:29:31 PM
I plan on buying a second transducer for my 898si. I have found two switches that are supposed to be compatible, the TS3 W, and the TS3 W.
Other than one is a toggle, and the other a rocker, what is the difference? I can buy the TS2 for about half the price of the TS3. I have no preference on outward appearance, as long as it functions with SI.
 Thanks

After doing some reading, I think I need to clarify what I want to do. I don't want to take any chances in damaging my unit.
I want to install a XTM 9 HDSI 180 T transducer on my trolling motor so I can use SI while sideways drift fishing. I assume an external switch is required for this and can't be done with a Y cable. Since both transducers are SI, is there a need to change settings internally? Does the TD need to be in the water before switching?
thanks

You will need the HB TS3 switch (I think the TS 2 is the old style not available anymore)...

There would be no setting to change in the "Transducer Select" menu as both xducers are the Hi Def SideScan xducers...

It does not hurt the xducer to be out of the water during operation...

I did happen to find some NOS ST2s, considerably cheaper than the TS3s. Is there a reason they were discontinued? Faulty?

“NOS ST2s” ???

We used to make the TS2-W Transducer Switch but it was replaced by the TS3 Transducer Switch.  This was done to update them to a rocker style switch which is easier to mount (and matches the other switches) in more boats than the toggle switch did.  There were internal changes as well that make it easier to manufacture.

Yep!
I hear you on the dyslexia.  It gets worse as you get older too...
