Motor vs Transducer
« on: April 12, 2011, 02:29:46 PM »
Is my motor going to block my side-imaging scan to the port side of the boat?

Looks like it could but hard to tell from the angle that picture was taken from.  How much clearance do you have between the lower unit of the motor and the transom?
How thick if that transducer mounting plate?

We recommend 5 inches of clearance for the 797/798’s CSi transducer.  So you will need at least that much plus the thickness of the transducer mounting plate.

Thanks for that.  I'll have to take some measurements tonight.  I supose I can trim the motor up if there isn't enough clearance.

Hmmmmm..I wonder if we could get a boat manufacture  / sonar transducer manufacture users group established so that all this "dont match" issue could be sorted out before the buyer starts purchasing.
On another thought....Maybe we need to educate the boat sellers on the mechanics of transducers and mounting.
We should put Roddy in charge of this..
 ;D ::)
Anyway, until this happens I would suggest to anyone that they join this group and ask questions...
there is so much information and guidance here...From knowledgeable folks..

Took the boat out yesterday for the first time.  I did have to trim up the motor  couple of notches to get a decent scan on the poert side of the boat.  Otherwise, no problems.  Think I will invest in a mini-jacker.

If HB ever wants to get serious in the saltwater market, they need to redesign the transducers to be easily adjusted with the boat in the water. Loosening screws that penetrate the hull skin are a no go for boats stored in the water. There needs to be a fixed /sealed mount, then all adjustments up, down, left, right, tilt, rotate, done from something removable with a mask and fins or done from a swim platform. Plastic thru hulls will get your insurance canceled. Bronze or marlon only.
