Title: Helix 10 Sonar GPS
Post by: Surf N Turf on October 24, 2016, 12:12:42 PM
I have a Helix 10 SI GPS @ the helm, and a Helix 10 Sonar GPS at the bow.  Both have the current software versions, 1.210.  I use Navionics + US & Canada cards in both, and both cards were updated Aug. 2016.  I have both units set to shade water depth deeper than 20'.  The SI GPS @ the helm works as intended.  The Sonar GPS unit at the bow does not.  The bow unit shades water shallower than 20'.  I have swapped the cards back and forth, no change.  All HB offered was to do a system default.  That did not help either.  Next recourse is to send the unit and mapping card in to HB.  Anyone have a tip or two on what setting to try?
Thanks in advance,
Gregory

I have found that the Shaded Depth feature is no where near what the spot soundings on my older Navionics card shows ...

I can set the Shaded Depth at 0 and everything is white ... then click Shaded Depth to 1 - and it shades everything green up to 17ft ... then nothing changes again until I get up closer to 30 ...

You might get a better qualified answer from calling Navionics (instead of HB) and ask them why the Shaded Depth feature doesn't seem to work correctly in your HB unit ...

I've never been able to get a reasonable answer about Shaded Depth from any of the electronics forums I follow ...

Navionics Reply:
This problem that you are encountering happens to be  a plotter functionality.   It is the way that your unit is reading the card, the charting information has not changed by swapping it from one plotter to another.  You will need to continue you investigation through Humminbird.

And that's exactly why we have never been able to get a reasonable answer as to why the Shaded Depth feature doesn't work as it seems it should ...
