Title: can you pull gps off screenshots? on Pc
Post by: eddy6053 on December 08, 2010, 10:15:58 PM
is there a program that lets you move your cursor around on the screenshot and get that gps.....when viewing on your pc. Everthing I've looked at looks like it's for recording....I've tried the yellowfin but can't seem to get to work....with the hbsi converter, maybe that's just for recording

Eddy Humviewer or Yellow fin either one will do that. Down load them from here. Gary

Gary,
Eddy is talking about getting the GPS data from a snapshot if I understand right. Hummviewer and Yellowfin will only work on recordings, not on snapshots.

If you have the Position in the snapshot, you have a rough idea where the snapshot was taken Eddie. If not, down load the waypoints to Hummnbird PC and you can get an idea where the snapshot was taken by checking the waypoints. Every time you take a snapshot its position is saved with it.

If you have your cursor on the spot while you have taken the snapshot your screen was frozen and the distance and bearing from your position and the cursor's position are displayed in the snapshot as well.
If you have disance and bearing, well, then you can go the old fashioned way with map, triangle and compass  ;).

Regards / Harry

What I want to do .... is looking at my screenshots this winter in the warm comforts of homeon my pc, is  look back at some of the screenshots I took....of structure...we just had a 500 yr flood and there's all kind of junk in the water, boatlifts, docks, trees, stuff like that..when I'm out in the boat I'll take a screen shot of something I think will hold fish....the gps point I get...I assume is where the boat is, now if the object of interest is behind me somewhere I would like to be able to narrow it down. Wandering around on the ice and drilling alot of holes, Well frankly is alot of work and harder then one would think. There must be a program where I can put the cursor and it will show me the gps point.... Here's somebodys boatlift in 50'. Not all my screenshots have the gps up on the screen. I know better now.

A snapshot is a picture file and contains no GPS data.
If you had be doing a recording, then yes you could.
If you do like I do, and wait to make a snapshot until the object is in the middle of the screen, then the saved waypoint of the snapshot will be off by the distance you traveled as represented by the distance from the screen top to the object. If you saved your track then you could get some idea of the location based on your travel direction and the snapshot waypoint if you kept the S000000 waypoint snapshot PNG file. and/or reloaded it into your SI unit.
I change a lot of my S000000 PNG snaphots to JPEG format for e-mailing and website posting.

I thought every snapshot came with 2 files...the pic and the data info....when I download off my chip there's always 2 files per screenshot.

Yes, the picture file has a companion .DAT file that shows the GPS co-ordinates.
