Title: xpth9 hdsi 180t
Post by: markbigsur on October 25, 2015, 03:06:10 PM
Hello all,
I fish deep sea, mainly salmon and tuna. I have moved the transom mount transducer that came with my 998csi all over the place and have not been able to get good readings even with the regular sonar at 4-5knts.  There is so much turbulence at the transom on my 2052 trophy I/O mainly from the exhaust that  I am going to install the Thru hull xpth9 hdsi 180t transducer on the bottom of my boat.  Here is what I would like to accomplish:  1. Be able to see bait balls and and bottom on the reg. sonar while running at 20kts or so.  and 2. be able to use the side scan and DI at 2-6knts while trolling to pick up bait and fish to the sides of the boat. The water is often 2000-3000ft deep for tuna.  I set the reg sonar for just the top 300ft.  Will the SI still look to the sides even with the bottom so deep?  And will the XPTH get a good reading on reg sonar while running or will I also need a shoot thru the hull for running?
Thanks for the help,
Mark

Doing some more research looks like what might work best for what I need would be an airmar  b-260.  Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
