possibly upgrading
« on: March 04, 2018, 06:29:57 PM »
currently run a 1648 Jon/river boat.  I have a 898HDSI, 80#Terrova Link, and transducer splitter cable to the HDSI & 2D high speed ducers, both on the transom.  The 898 is hooked to the Link.  I am giving some thought of upgrading to a Helix 10 Mega SI.  Would I be able to run the Helix Mega (transom mounted ducer) connected to the Link, and the 898 connected to the US2 of the Terrova?  I'm currently not interested in needing the 898 utilize the Helix transducer.

Thanks for inputs
Mark

Absolutely  ... Connect the iLink to the MEGA just like it is connected to your 898  ...

Connect your 898 to the Terrova US2 with the MKR-US2-8 found here  ...

With only the US2 (2d) connected to the 898 - you should shut the SI transmitters by selecting "Dual Beam" in the "Connected Transducer" Menu under the Sonar tab  ...

Also, if you intend to still use a Y cable Setup (with an additional 2d xducer) for the MEGA on the transom - you will need to replace AS SIDBY Cable you currently have with the 9 MSIDB Y cable

Thanks Rickie, that's what I thought.  Couple more questions in case I decide to go a different route, 1) could the splitter I have be used to connect the transom 2D ducer and the US2 ducer to the 898? 2)This one is doubtful, but should I decide to buy a hub, then I'd need a 2nd ethernet cable & 1 dongle? The current one is connecting the Link to the 898. Then all units would have some sharing abilities?  I think I understand I'd have to turn off the Mega & Chirp for the 898 viewing?

The AS SIDBY Cable will work with any of the NON-MEGA 7pin xducers to split off 2d  ... But not in a scenario with 2 separate 2d sources  ...

You would need the HB TS3 Switch to connect 2 separate 2d xducers to 1 HB unit (discontinued but maybe still available in the internet world)  ...
https://www.humminbird.com/Products/TS3/

The AS ETH 5XPG would be required to Ethernet any more than 2 devices (MEGA unit/ 898/ and iLink = 3 devices) ...
https://www.humminbird.com/productDetail-Accessory.aspx?Pageid=728&id=1817

And the MEGA needs the AS EC QDE adapter cable to connect to Ethernet  ...
