screen size, 998
« on: December 19, 2010, 06:03:34 PM »
i've noticed the data on the 900 series is on the left, but the data on the 1100 series is on the bottom. can you move the data strip around on the display? what is the actual size of the screen area available for side, down or 2d on the 900 seies? i'm about to make a decision on what unit to get. thanks for anybodies input.

The physical screen size is 6.875" wide---4.250" high

The usable screen size is   5.500" wide---3.875" high

No, you cannot move the data boxes on any of the units.

cdub,
I have a 998c SI. I'll share a little trick I use to increase the screen viewing size.
The default setting for SI Viewing is  " Both ".   The boat  is in the middle and 1/2 view is Left and 1/2 view is Right of boat.
Suppose you want a better view to the right of the boat.
Go to Side Imaging X-Press Menu, scroll down to SI Side, and change " Both " to " Right".
Now the boat icon will be on the left side of your screen and you will double the display size for the same range.
Remember you are only looking that one direction, but it will magnify the display.

The Poor Fish price jumped from $1507 yesterday to $2199 today.  Ouch, guess I'll be looking elsewhere.

For just a couple of hundred more you can get the 1198.   :P
Wow, did not realize the 898 was going to cost that much...

Yes, the $1507 was a really good price for the 998.

Once you get fully educated about which units will do the job for you, you have to keep an eye out for the deals and be ready to jump on them before they are gone.

I must of lucked out, this unit was complete. All installed except the transducer. I have an issue with placement. I'm assuming I'll need to tilt my outboard up when sidescanning! I have a 165 classic aluimicraft  deep v tiller steer with a yamaha 50 4 stroke. This will not be a problem I guess since you will be running @ low mph's.
