788ci DI Hd to Laptop hookup
« on: August 07, 2012, 09:03:38 PM »
I just bought the Dr Depth software and I'm just wondering after looking around on the two sites is it possible there is no single cable which will allow just plug and play between the Humminbird and a laptop or I have to have someone build one?  I'm 2 days from leaving for Canada where this software could be critical and I realize this is my fault for waiting so long but I really didn't think it was going to be that big of a deal!!

There is a PC Connect cable in the AS-PC kits that will direct connect the unit to a computer.  I don’t use DR. Depth myself so I don’t know if this will work for sure.  Look at the AS-PC2 (serial connection) and AS-PC3 (USB connection) kits to see which you need or build your own cable (use the Search function on this web site for a post on how to do this).

I think you have to make one. Dr depth uses ethernet so you need an RG45 (looks like large phone jack) on one end and the other end is hooked to the HB unit.

Did you turn NMEA output to on in the setup menu of HB unit?

Here is where the help for DRD is http://www.drdepth.se/ex_cex.php?l=gb

I reread this post are you trying to do NMEA out with PC2 cable?

I'm pretty sure that cable will not do will not do nmea out. Greg, can you confirm this.

You need the AS HHGPS and you have to solder the wires to a serial port connector per the directions on the DRD site.

The AS-PC Connect Cable does have the wiring for NMEA output.  Since he is using an internal GPS Unit he should be able to get an NMEA 0183 output with this cable.

kwelklin are you trying this in simulator mode? I never get NMEA out to my DSC radio in Sim mode. Try in normal mode.
