Snapshot Question.
« on: April 23, 2011, 10:58:39 PM »
Ok...I have a new 1198.  For some unknown reason, I can't get my pics to show up on my "snapshot" screen.  It says no pics .

I have everything set just like I did on my 898.

What am I not doing or am I doing wrong.

I have a 2GB SD card in the unit.  Now, I took took similator pics...they showed and now they are gone.  There must be something very simple ( I hope ) that I am not doing.  Some please give me some guidelines to try and test.

Thanks

Hi Calli1,
Here's maybe the simple answer straight out of the text book. It happened to me

Snapshot and Recording View
(optional-purchase MMC/SD card required)
Snapshot and Recording View displays the screen snapshots and recordings that are saved on the optional-purchase MMC/SD card installed in the control head. Use this view to review the snapshot and recording file details, start recording, and adjust the recording settings.
• Activate Screen Snapshot: Select Screen Snapshot from the Accessories Menu Tab, and select On. Also, install an optional- purchase MMC/SD card in the control head, and make sure Snapshot and Recording View is set to Visible on the Views Menu Tab.

Thanks for the quick answer and I will go back and double check everything.  I have a 2GB SD card in the unit along with my Navionics Map SD Card.  Everytime a hit the "mark" button, it takes a few second to save and then makes the "ding" noise.  The waypoint is saved but the accual pic is not.  I sure hope there is nothing wrong with this unit.  I may try for a different size GB card?  Either way I will go back and double check.  I have not tried to record yet and should try that to I guess.  Thanks

As Geoff said, check the menue and make sure you have advanced and snapshot enabled.
Kind of sounds like it is not.

Does it matter what siz S D Card I use ?  I know it has to do with amount of pics and recording but what is best overall size.

The size would relate to your particular needs.
The only concern with storing data on an SD is the recording.
We try to keep recordings lower in size so that viewing programs do not get overwhelmed with large data files...............
Picture files  are individual and generally do not do anything except occupy space.
The type of SD can make some difference as to the data writing speed. Older SD sometimes tie up the processor when writing.
This can slow down your visual window on the unit itsself.
Maybe someone can do a project and make a chart of data sizes, write times and capacity influences as they relate to a particular unit and version..

Calli!,
Here is an article by Robert back in january Re SD cards. I don't know if they are still on special.

"Just wanted to let everyone know that the SanDisk Extreme III SD Cards are on sale at Best Buy this week for $39.95.  This is the Class 10 version that has up to 30MB/s Read/Write speed.  This is, as far as I know, the fastest on the market right now.

SanDisk Extreme III SD Card 30MB/s

I have both the 20MB/s older version and the now the new 30MB/s and must say it is extremely faster.  Absolutely no slow down when making recordings, and Snapshots are done in less than a second.  In fact it pretty much is instantaneous.  When I press the mark button, it almost immediately shows completed.

I highly encourage anyone making recordings to use the SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s SD cards. Please make sure you check the packaging when you purchase and it says 30MB/s.  The 20MB/s Extreme III is still being sold, so make sure you are getting what you pay for!"

I think I found my problem after talking with the Tech folks at Humminbird....a bad S D card.  I tried and found out by placing a empty 2 GB card in and everything works.  Keeping my fingers crossed.....

Well...for one, the card must not have been formated.  Second..it was a off brand S D card.  Third....Once another one will work...I trashed the one I had.
