Title: 798 screen shot questions
Post by: sdinkler1 on February 19, 2012, 09:59:58 PM
here is a couple screen shots I took yesterday my question is I seem to be getting interference in the water colume, I have tried different chart speeds and sensitivity settings and range settings and cant seem to get rid of the interefence.  The first time I had the unit out I didnt have this problem.  Any Ideas?

Looks like it could be grass or some other type of underwater vegetation.

I did not see a lot of interference in the water column with the screen snapshots you posted.  Looks like it could be some surface clutter combined with some sort of partial blockage of the right Si sonar.  Next time out see if you can set the Si Range to the 20 setting and see if it shows up any better.

Let us know where your Si transducer is installed and post some images of the installation if possible.  We need to see across the transom and past the transducer from both directions.

Is the transducer and boat level when in the water?

Was there a lot of wind/waves or did another boat pass by?  These all can create surface clutter that the Si sonar can show.

Yep, looks like a weed bed in the third picture and a slight obstruction on the right side.

Greg,
I think you answered my question I belive it was probably surface clutter caused by wind and waves ( probably had 15 to 20 mph winds that day and water was choppy all day.  The first time I took it out water was flat calm and I didn't have hardly any surface clutter.  As for the mount I dont have any pics right now but it is mounted on a 2000 ranger 520, I mounted it on the very bottom next to the drain plug and it seems to work pretty well except on plane I lose 2d sonar @ 45mph but I can live with that.  Thanks for the advise.
