Humminbird PC and Humviewer recent downloads
« on: January 13, 2014, 07:24:15 PM »
I've recently purchased an 898 HD SI and have after browsing the Forum set it up to be working really well. I also have just downloaded the latest softwares for both Humminbird PC and Humviewer. My question is do I still need to restore defaults on the unit to prevent the new downloads doing anything nasty the next time I decide to import anything from those programs. My other question is how do you change the palette in Humviewer. Mark

Mark,
You should not have to change anything in your unit for it to work with HumminbirdPC.

Sorry, but I don’t run HummViewer.  Someone else will have to answer those questions.

Some Humviewer info:
1) Use Settings->Unit Settings before opening a recording to set Humviewer to Meters or Feet. Default is meters.
2) Open HB recording by opening the Rnnnnn.dat file(it has a companion Rnnnnn folder).
3) You can select your view for 4-view, 3-view, Top/Bottom, Left/Right, RightTop, or LeftTop. RightTop is SI only.
4) Right-click in the view to change Color Schemes, Contrast/Brightness to your preference.  Also set Crop To for better view. Maybe Crop From.

Also download the HB Brown color palette from this forum and install(you might like it):

HumminbirdPC does not require you to Restore Defaults on the Unit.

Search for Humviewer or Hummviewer and HumminbirdPC or HBPC on this forum for many threads on these.

Mark----Two suggestions on using Humviewer.

My first review of a recording will be in 3-view ( 2D in upper left, boat path in lower left and SI in the right half to the screen).
SI works best if you maintain a straight line heading at a constant speed. I unfortunately struggle with this. If I pass over a target, I find myself doing a 180 for
a second look. If it looks interesting, I may make several other passes from other angles and boat speeds.
If you were only watching the SI view, the info flows from the top to the bottom regardless of the boat direction changes. By watching the boat path in the lower
left, I can remember what I did.

We search for targets attached to the bottom. Some are very hard but don't have much height and are easy to miss.
As LG said by right clicking on a view, you can make changes. In the 2D window, I right click and adjust the depth to just over 2x the actual depth. By doing this
if you pass over something hard you will get a second echo and it is much easier to see.

                                  Mike
