I can't seem to keep my grubby hands off of the screen, and the rags in my boat are as dirty, or dirtier than my hands, so I came up with this to keep eyeglass cleaning wipes close. I know they're supposed to be waterproof, but I never liked spaying them with cleaner. I've used these wipes for several years now on all my other units I've had, and never had a problem.
I double sticky taped a small ziplock bag to the inside of my unit cover, and keep half a dozen or so wipes in it.

I guess I should have researched this better before posting.
Does this recommendation from 2010 still hold true?
What products can be used to clean my display?
Humminbird recommends using Windex® Vinegar Multi Surface(in the spray bottle).
Do NOT use any wipes products (which can also be available as the brand name Windex Multi-Task).
The lens contains a special coating which improves visibility. It is recommend to use the above cleaner because we have tested and proved this cleaner. It does not deteriorate the coatings on the lens.

I could be wrong but.... I think what you are using is fine - and the warning is for household type window cleaning products. I use plastic eyeglass cleaners all the time on screens - no issues

I used a piece of clear flexible plastic like the stuff you Grandma used yo put on the couch cushions. Any fabric store sells it and for about a buck it makes a great scratchproof screen cover. Cut it perfectly to size - and with a few drops of distilled water - put it on. If I'm not mistaken I got that hint right here a couple years ago. Still the same one and it's been on my 997 for at least 2 years.

The advantage to using the Windex MULTIsurface vinegar in the spray bottle is when you spray the screen you loosen and wash a lot of the grit off the screen. Wipe it dry with a microfiber cloth and you will be surprised how much this improves your view. Though the wipes are damp and better than just usung a dry cloth they do not clean the screen as well and prevents scratches like you do when spraying it down.

Though i agree with RuffWood about the advantages of a spray versus wipes, I think that warning was specific for the Windex Multi-Purpose (or maybe it was Multi-Surface) wipes which used a different chemical mix versus the spray stuff. We still only recommend the spray:
