Title: Organizing Groups of Waypoints
Post by: Whistler on July 06, 2015, 01:01:44 PM
I've been having some trouble with HumminbirdPC groups and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if HPC is just having some issues.  Here is what I'm trying to do.

I have a group for each lake I fish.  Right now, all of my way points for a given lake are all in the group for that specific lake.

Here is what I want to do.  For each of the lakes (groups) I want to create multiple sub groups to represent the type of location/cover/structure the waypoint is (e.g. lake subgroups called Brushpiles, Docks, Grass, Blowdowns, etc.).  Seems easy enough via HPC.  I've created the subgroups and all without issue.  The problems I have occur when trying to move the existing waypoints into the new subgroups.  Cut and paste is really slow.  Copy and paste seems to work better but then I have to go back and delete the duplicates.  Then sometimes subgroups just disappear as if I deleted them but I did not.  This mostly seems to happen with dealing with large numbers of waypoints at once...trying to copy / paste 20+ way points.

Has anyone else been successful doing what I'm trying to do?  Did you experience any of the problems I've seen?

There's one other thing that I don't quite understand about the HPC program hierarchy.  Under the root of the .gpx file there is a "Waypoints" container.  Then under each Group (including the Home group) there are other "Waypoints" containers.  When trying to organize the waypoints, from which of the "Waypoints" containers should I be moving the waypoints?

This old thead has a little video on Waypoint Management System/Groups:

And yes HBPC is a little buggy with Groups.  I normally Cut&Pasted selected waypoints from GroupA-to-GroupB.

And the ONIX might not support Groups.
