HB screen displays.
« on: February 13, 2013, 11:40:17 PM »
Hi guys,

I have a 798ci si, one of the few things I'd change about it is that I'd like a screen display that incorporates the chart plotter, sidescan and normal sounder view. Do any of the larger units like the 900s have this available?

That way I could navigate between waypoints and be able to scan via sideimaging and also see the normal sounder view..

nicko,
If the 798 units had a three-way screen split I’m sure at least two of those windows would be too small to see any detail.

None of the larger units has a three-way screen split like this either.  The only Chart split Views is the Chart with one sonar View only.  The only three-way split we have is the 2D, Si and Di sonar.

Thanks Greg,

I guess for me it would be perfect as I scan a lot of open country, so anything showing on the SI is of interest and I only need the chart plotter in small detail so I roughly head towards my objective, or stay in the trolling grid. I like to have the normal bottom shot on screen too as it shows the bottom hardness etc and I guess I'm a little old school still.

It's not too big a hassle though but I have to change views pretty often to make sure I'm on track etc, then go back to watching the SI/bottom sounder combo. I'm thinking about maybe buying a small unit to use as the chart plotter, then I'll use my 798 for SI/bottom viewing, it's only a small boat though so not sure the cost is justified yet, or if I could get wife approval! ;)

if you happen to pass over something and you see it on one side of the SI, I think you can scroll over to it via the up, down, left, right keypad and press mark and it should mark a waypoint on your chart at the location of your cursor. So instead of marking your boat position, it marks that spot on GPS where your cursor was.  So you can switch back to chart to head over the waypoint and then switch back to you SI,Di or whatever you want to use to look at it.

yeah thanks mate, I've watched every available video on youtube so am comfortable operating the system, just sick of pressing buttons to change view, especially when exploring for eight hours or so a trip. cheers.

Although I can't find it, I saw a post about taking a tablet ( iPad or Samsung ) with a GPS
program or a map chip (if they would work) for the chart. Could that be an option?
