Title: Dedicated DI
Post by: Whistler on January 09, 2012, 08:17:18 PM
Can the dedicated DI transducer used by the new DI units be mounted to shoot-thru-hull?

The XIH 9 DI T thru hull xducer is listed for use with:

570 DI
596c HD DI
597ci HD DI Combo
788ci HD DI Combo

Thanks.  I apparently failed to look in the most obvious place ::)

Here is another question. I have an 1198 with the transducer mounted on my jack plate.  Will I be able to mount the DI transducer (for use with another dedicated DI unit) in the hull without interference from the 1198 transducer?  Does anyone know how much separation the SI and DI transducers would need to eliminate the possibilty of cross talk?

Whistler, this subject has already been talked about alot in the below thread:
The short of it is: No you cannot use both sonars at the same time without interference, unless Greg has something neat up his sleeve.

Geek,

Originally I was just unsure if the DI unit transducers could be mounted in-hull but rnvinc got me sorted there.  I had been following Jerkbait's thread pretty closely but got a bit over zealous and impatient and didn't want to hijack his thread so I posted my question here.  Additionally, I went a head and posted a possible solution on his thread in hopes that maybe the scenario I outlined would work.

Just to elaborate a little on what itgeek said...

Any 2 units running the same frequency at the same time is susceptable to RF interference....

There are even instances where 2 separate boats running the same frequency close enough together can cause interference...

Can the dedicated DI transducer used by the new DI units be mounted to shoot-thru-hull?

The standard transom mount transducer can be mounted inside-the-hull providing you use the correct epoxy to do so.

The XIH-9-DI-T transducer that Rickie mentioned is the transom mount transducer with our epoxy kit.

Nope, nothing up my sleeves.

Think of it like this.  Two people talking on the radio at the same time.. The receiver cant figure out what is being said.
The difference with sonar is ther cones or beams are just not as wide as radio. So sometime you can get away with two transducers ....
