999 won't power on
« on: June 01, 2014, 07:43:42 PM »
Spent the last week on a lake with the new 999si and 859 di. Both worked great the first two days, and were both removed from the boat and placed in a padded bag at the end of each day. On the third day the 999 would not start when placed back in the boat and powered up.
It will generate a black screen, but will not progress from there. I have the 999 at the console, and the 859 at the bow. Both are running on separate, fused, wire runs back to the starting battery, and no fuses were blown. I tried swapping them to see if it was a bad wire run, bad connection, voltage problem, etc, at the console, but it would also not start at the bow. The 859 would start at both locations, and thankfully worked great the entire trip, and kept us finding fish. ;D
They are both running software version 7.020 and are networked on the new ethernet switch with my I pilot Link. Any ideas to get it to start up before calling Humminbird, and sending it in? We have another trip lined up in a couple weeks, and would sure like to have it with us. Thanks for any help
Get in, sit down, shut up, and fish hard!

Do you have someone that you could try the unit at their powder supply?  I know you tried the other unit and it worked but worth a shot.  Hope it works out for ya
Tell them I've gone fishing!

I think at this point that you just need to go ahead and contact the Humminbird Customer resource folks and get your 999ci HD Si unit in here to be worked on.

Thanks for the responses guys! Tried three times today to call Humminbird Greg, it must have been a very busy day there, as all I could get was a busy signal. Will try again tomorrow.

Mondays are the busiest day of the week for them.  They come in at 8:00 AM (Central time zone), so 8:01 AM is a good time to call except on Wednesdays as they have a 30 minute meeting so don’t get started until 8:30 AM on that day.
