Title: Compatibility between Lowrance and Humminbird
Post by: WALLEYEMIKE on March 09, 2014, 01:04:04 PM
I have an older Lowrance 520C 8), it i s7 yrs old, but want to buy a Humminbird 999CI HD SI Combo ;D. Will I have any trouble with interference between the 2? I have an Alumacraft 185 Tournament Pro Tiller and presently have transducers(have a front mounted depth finder) mounted on transom starboard side

I want to move the 520 up front for wife and put the new 999 back with me

Will I have problems/ What can I do to prevent any problems

Thanks

I think the 720 uses 200Khz....and so does the Bird.

Anytime you have more than one unit transmitting at the same frequency there is a chance of crosstalk.  If you have one transducer on the transom and one transducer on the bow, the chances are less that you will have crosstalk with the 200Khz unless you are in deeper water.

It probably wont be bad enough to be too much of a problem...if it is, you may have to turn off one when using the other.

Thanks Bob.......If I remember correctly the Low has 2 settings I can use, 50 or 200. The new 999 has 3 , 83, 200, and 455.

My dealer also suggested mounting 1 xducer on the port side and the other on the starboard side....anyone think this is far enough apart..

What about ping speed?

I want the Hbird to function at 100%, the low is just to keep my wife busy. ;)

Hi WALLEYEMIKE

The more diverse the frequencies, the few disorders with each other. The same is true for the distance, the farther apart the better.
The ping rate has no influence on it.

No 100% guarantees either way here WALLEYEMIKE.  With two units running the same frequency you could have sonar cross-talk.  Installing the transducers farther apart will help prevent this but this is not always possible to do.  If your Humminbird starts showing sonar cross-talk, try turning on and up the Noise Filter menu.  Manually selecting the (2D sonar) depth range can also help as this forces the unit to use a different ping speed/rate.  Sonar interference is usually only seen in the 2D sonar.  Regardless of what Beam Select menu setting you make on the Humminbird unit, it will still transmit and receive on the 200kHz frequency.

You will want to mount the 999ci HD Si’s transducer as far away from the 520C’s just so that transducer will block lee of the Si sonar to that side.  The farther away, the less blockage there will be.
