About to Get an 898c SI
« on: March 06, 2011, 01:13:39 PM »
Before I make a few more clicks to finally purchase the unit, just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving anything out.

898c si off of univeralmania.com for $1229.99 (the site seems legit with high customer satisfaction rate).

Ram D 111U C mount, AS SI DB Y cable, and XP 9 20 transducer from Amazon all for $150.

I'm putting it on a Skeeter SX190.  Also, what is the difference in the thru hull tranducers?  XAP 9 20, XP 9 20, and XP 9 20 T?  Amazon recommended the XP 9 20 in a bundle with the cable and mount.

Thanks for any help.  Can't wait to join the SI family.  I've been with Humminbird for years and absolutely loved the other models.

Did you purchase your unit from UUniversalMania.com ? If so how was your experience buying from them and did you get it in a reasonable time period? I plan to order another unit and plan to to use them but just wanted to get your input.

Hi Pat,

Here are some great links to the 2010 Humminbird product catalog page that breaks down which accessories go with which products.  It definitely helped me figure out what I needed.

Pat,
I’ll answer your question:

XP-9-20 is an inside-the-hull transducer that does not have temperature.  This is the one recommended for use with the AS-Si-DB-Y cable because when you use this cable the temperature from the DualBeam transducer that you are using (in this case the XP-9-20) does not get connected.  The water temperature comes from the Si transducer.  Why pay a few dollars more for a temperature sensor that you won’t be using?

XP-9-20-T is an inside-the-hull transducer that has a temperature sensor on the end of a 10-foot cable that comes out of the transducer. If this transducer is used with the AS-Si-DB-Y cable that temperature will not be connected.

XAP-9-20 is the same as the XP-9-20 transducer above except that the bottom of the transducer is angled at 14 degrees and was made for boats that have a steep deadrise (steeply angled hull like in a deep-vee)

That XP-9-20 transducer and AS-Si-DB-Y transducer splitter cable package is what you need.

Pat

Glad to hear you love your 898 too.  Like you I fell in love with mine almost as soon as I turned it on for the first time last weekend.  Since I've gotten back from the first trip with it I have been spending time going through all the recordings and taking snap shots to mark waypoints of some neat structure I located.  I really love that feature of recording the sonar of the trip, discovered lost of things I didn't see while on the water.

I have posted some of the pics in my profile, they aren't anything special as I still have a lot of learning to do.

Come on guys and gals no one has an opinion on the Warranty from universalmania?

I want to order from here since the price is good and saw a guy from Minnesota(ranger519200) got his pretty quick so I want to get ordering before season starts so I can get it in the boat I am sure I will be contributing to this site once I get one on the boat.

Hi Walleye-guy,
If you hit the Search button on top row 5th from left and type in Universalmania you will find a few reports on Universalmania in general from guys that have purchesed. I remember reading one last week which was a glowing review.
