Si vs quad beam
« on: May 31, 2011, 08:11:27 PM »
Can someone in laymans terms explain to me the difference in Si and quadbeam?
What happens when I change the sonar from si to quad and then back?
What does si do that quad doesnt and which frequencies are for which beam?

Side Imaging:

Quad Beam:

In other words: Side Imageing is giving the NICE pictures to you. Quad looks like a standard sonar to you, just got a greater coverage.

As Del showed you; it’s all in the shape and size of the Si sonar beams versus the QuadraBeam sonar beams.  Since the Si beams are very thin front-to-rear and very wide left-to-right they can produce an image that has a lot of detail that also covers a wider area than the QuadraBeam can.

When you change the Transducer select menu from one setting to another, the unit will use a different part of programming for one sonar type versus another.  Not only will sonar Views change but also associated menus will be shown or hidden as well.
