Post by: newkid4si on January 20, 2017, 09:19:21 PM
For those who have bought and used AutoChart or AutoChart Pro , if you had to buy it again, would you and which version?

Definitely I would buy Auto Chart pro again .   The fact that you can make a map of the lakes that you fish and play with them on your computer when at home is a real plus.  I always recommend that if you are able to record your lake info before getting the Auto Chart program do so and save it on your computer because then when you get the program you will have a jump start on your maps.  It is also a great program to have even if you have Auto Chart Live on your depth finder.

I bought Navionics card first, have been a Navionics holdout. But when I started reading about Auto Chart Pro I knew that this was the one. Being that I am computer challenged I bought the LakeImages training DVDs with it. I can tell you that I am sold on how much they will help you in using your Auto Chart. I am not pushing there products just want to pass on my feelings. I have not tried to use any of my older recordings as of yet but plan on it. I have been watching some of the You Tubes as I not so bright fellow I am didn't know to set up my sonar for the map. Was very disappointed it was not working. Well I cured that and went looking at places I just mapped on my sonar WOW now I see.  Would I do it again I wish I had not waited so long.

Did you chart the maps with the Side imaging version of auto chart unit?  I was told by a Sales staff at a tackle shop that maps are created much quicker with the side imaging units because it will use the side image range whereas the none side imaging units of course don't have  the side imaging range?

Or do all units use the same range for mapping ? ie Track width

Data for AutoChart is collected using the 200kHz 2d beam regardless if the unit is an imaging model or Sonar  only model ...

Great to know. Thanks. I see  vet have to vett everything a sports shop says about technology as there are as many contradictions as facts.  I find the documentation for these products  way insufficient for th features and applications they are built for. It's as though you are expected to just go by the feature name and trust it does what you want  and if not then ur sol. That's why we need these sites.  So much is undocumented

Here is a link to the AUTOCHART GETTING STARTED GUIDE.    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2IE_4njdjrPcml0ZGhQd3R3ZzQ/view    Half way down page 6 and page 7 talks about recording.

One thing I noticed at the end of the first paragraph was the map will be created using the track log using 2D as Rickie said, but if you want to include bottom hardness ( available in AC PRO ) you need to use the

     sonar recording feature.

I got Helix 7 last year with plans of later getting Autochart.  Given how much the software costs I am debating if I should have just gotten Helix 9 which had Autochart Live.  I still think it may be better due to all the things you can do on the PC Software?

Either way Autochart / Autochart Pro software should no be that expensive, especially since its now sort of obsolete.  Does anyone know if it can be buy used?
