Title: Black left side in SI
Post by: jgollihar on October 01, 2011, 06:16:36 PM: I have a 998 with the SI transducer mounted to the TM. I went to the lake today, and noticed that on my SI screen, the left side was black. I made sure my settings for side were both. I turned my it off and back on, still black left side. I restored factory defaults, still black left side. Lastly, I put my 1197 on that transducer, and still showed a black left side. I put the 998 on the transom transducer and the SI worked great and showed both left and right sides.

I think my transducer went bad. Is that what it sounds like to you all.

My unit is only a year old. I am a Humminbird select member, so I have a 2 year warranty on my units. Are transducers covered as well?

I would first check that that there is nothing blocking the left side on the TM transducer.
Also make sure that the left side of the transducer is clean of mud and grass.

You will have to contact HB about the warranty unless Greg checks in to let you know.

I don’t know the answer to that one Bob B but would guess that it is covered unless it is physical damage. he will have to check with the Humminbird Customer Resource folks on that one.

Post by: sonar2000 on October 11, 2011, 12:33:22 PM: If the left display is black it probably is the transducer, most likely internal connecton. There was an assembly problem a while back on this. Dont know the exact time frame..or to how many were affected....
