Title: Autochart disappears
Post by: dockdeck2 on July 01, 2022, 11:20:24 PM
Last season my Helix 5 SI G2 worked well on the river. The autochart recorded our favorite shallow spots. No issues. I'm sure at some point towards the end of the Summer into fall I went over the 8 hours of trial recording and began overwriting. The head unit logged 140 hours. This season after taking the boat out of storage I noticed that none of my last season's autochart data was saved. Then noticed that the Autochart would let me record for as long as I like, but as soon as I turned record off, the data was gone. No raw data. No map data. Just the red track line where I was. First, Humminbird support had me check the basemap and software version. Everything is up to date. Then, they told me that putting in a zeroline card would solve the issue. It didn't make too much sense to me considering none of the original 8hrs was saved internally anymore. Whatever. So I follow the instructions and successfully put zeroline onto the SD card. Followed every step to full detail. No luck. Still not recording. On the phone with Humminbird and they're even bringing in their manager and we're checking every setting and trying everything. Here's what is weird. There's one little section of the river I tried to record for a few minutes days before and it saved it. So it randomly decided to save one little session. Finally they tell me I need to send the unit in for repair. Fortunately I am inside the 1 year warranty by the skin of my teeth. I'm waiting on them to send me the UPS return label but before I do I figured I'd throw this up here on the forum and see if anybody has anything to say. I'm thinking that there is a file system corruption and the system can temporarily hold the autochart data during record mode but cannot write. Maybe there's something I can try before I send it back?
Title: Update- Autochart disappears

An update for anyone interested. There was no fix. I sent the unit back to Humminbird and fortunately I was still within the 1 year warranty. They sent me a brand new unit within a few days.
Not sure what went bad with the unit. It was a lot of wasted time I wish I had sent it back right away instead of playing with it. Hindsight's 20-20. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else after their 1 year warranty!
