Looking hard at a HB 998ci si unit. I am wondering of HB has a way to tie in fuel usage on the unit from a fuel flow sensor? I like the way the HDS units can display engine guages and info.
thanks.

No we do not.

No we do not.
Ok with that answer I JUST have to ask "Why Not"

I guess because the people that make such decisions have not decided to do so yet. I don’t know that the majority of our Customers would use such a device.
-
According to Lowrance, Garmin and several others........ a lot of folks use guage displays....
A lot of boats are made without guages...

Well now, all you have to do is convince the folks that make these sort of decisions about that and I’m sure that we would come out with the appropriate connecting cables and black boxes for this. Is this on the Wish list? That would be a way of getting it in front of their eyes.

Most of the outboards come with there own gauges, bells, ect. I want HB to focus on
getting the eithernet problem, updating issues, waypoint management, something needs to be
done about the pin connectors,Screens that you can view during high noon on all there units,I want a day end day out reliable locator. Then if you want to have wish list go for it. That's my 2 cents. Gary

Its coming. If HB wants to stay competitive they will. Here is a video HDS Engine Readouts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5-ezK_wvAs#)
Whats cool is you can see everything the engine puts out and set your own warning limits on fluids, pressures, temps etc. I don't have a new enough Yamaha but knowing MPG, GPH & total fuel used would help. I make 25mi runs and you can really save gallons by small throttle and trim adjustments.
Anyway put it on my wishlist ;D

Hi Gary, I am in the market for a new unit, thats why I am here. Are these issues current with the Si units? :o :o

Yes they are. I have noticed in the last year more an more issues. Some of the things
are customers fault. A lot of the complaints are HB issues that need addressed. You can
ruin a great CS buy customers abusing them and people calling in the same questions
everyday . If you check the forums its the same issues everyday next week new bunch
comes in samething all over. I think HB has a pin connector problem, screen display problem,
And definitely a new update management system needs born.I personally own 1198,997
the 997 you cannot see in the bright sunlite. Definitely needs re engineered. Gary

I would agree that there is a problem with pin connectors and lack of NMEA 2000 interface is an issue. I was thinking of going to th L brand for this reason but I definitely the HB more overall. I did see a post on another site (THT) that seemed to say NMEA 2000 was being added in 2012 and it would be a software update for existing units. That would be fantastic if true. Is there any substance to that rumor that you might know of?

I think if you look across the board at all brands there are issues. That being said, many customers want to do different things or use them in a certain manner. NO unit will have everything you want and if it did the price would be outa range for most consumers. A lot ofthe issues are procedure or customer use related, now I will give you the software updating issues, but most are resovled pretty easy with the help of all the members here. I have had a couple issues, but they were definately not deal breakers. Love my units and am very happy.
@fwood...Greg from Humminbird posted a youtube video that explained a little about the new 2012 units. So far no more information has been released that I know of but could be wrong. I also was going to go with L, but, the processing speed for GPS turned me away. I am looking forward to the radar option, the motor functions not so much. Unless you have a newer motor that can support NEMA 2000 its kinda pointless to have. I have two units the 898 and 1198 so I dont have to switch screens so much and adding a third motor function option for me I'd have to buy another unit....JMO

NMEA 2000 was announced as going to be added in 2012. I’m sure that a software update will be needed and I think that this will only be for the Ethernet capable units.

Thanks guys,
Just hoping. :) I have two engines that support NMEA 2000 and a shortage of console space on both. I also prefer the HB over the L brand or the G brand though either of those could be used as Multifunction Display. I'm sure there will be some small hardware involved (cable) to tie into the NM2K backbone. I thought the 998C SI was ethernet ready but could be mistaken on that. I don't have any complaint with HB at all, overall it is a very good unit and I am very happy with it. I'll try to find that video on the 2012 HB units.
Thanks again.

The 998c Si unit is Ethernet capable (with at least the 5.410 software).
Look on the Humminbird Channel on YouTube for that video.
