Title: Helix depth calculations?
Post by: Ikantski on April 23, 2016, 08:03:38 PM
I noticed my helix 5 SI depths weren't matching the lowrance today. I figured maybe it got bumped to an angle. Switched view to sonar and it was drawing the bottom exactly where it should be. It was doing this pretty consistently in > 50 feet of water, they did match in 5 feet of water.  I had it in 200 (not 200/83).

How the heck does this thing calculate its depth if not by bottom position? Is there a setting that can make it more accurate?  It seems like it must be a software issue as the bottom drawing is accurate.

Note: It does have the latest firmware update.

Erratic depth readings can often be attributed to 2 sonars running at the same time ... I've even seen this issue when the 2 sonars are running on separate frequencies ...

You might try shutting off the Lowrance, Restore Defaults and test ...
