Title: SI transducer size compared to a normal transducer?

i have kayak that allows for fitting of  a normal HB transducer im just looking for size differences a pic would be ideal

Are you talking about transom mount transducers ? For in-the-hull installation there's just one transducer, no one for SI. Additionally there would be through-hull transducers, but they would easily get damaged by landing on rocks, slipping etc with your yak.

I meant a normal transducer from a normal fish finder compared to the standard si transducer. I had a look on the hb sit but it does not have sizes.

It's bigger but by how much? My kayak has a inbuilt hole to hold a standard hb transducer.

If that fails I'm thinking of using the stock si transducer as a shoot through. Alot of guys do this with a non si transducer. I've seen it down with the lowrance si transducer. It worked perfectly considering it only needs to shoot down through 1/8" plastic a kayak has no supports or beams to get in the way of a clear pic.

And I'm never in a kayak going to need a fast read out maybe 5 mph.

The transducer is about 6 inches long and three inches wide. If the Lowrance SI transducer fits and gets decent returns, I guess the HB would too. Probably depends on what you'll be using it for. Hull movement might be a concern if you're looking for detailed scans. I use a towfish when I'm out in the canoe ...

Great that should give one ideas were 2 mount it I might email Greg and ask him. 95% of the time I will be a max of 30-60ft if I have only ever fished in my boat to about 250ft and I doubt I'll put the yak that far out.

It's alot bigger than I thought I might try to mount it on the front of the yak.

I'll only really need super clear picks at a walking pace.

I could always mount it on a ram mount or similarin the side of the kayak but that's just getting messy

Thanks for the link. It was an interesting read. I thought the Lowrance SI might be a little more power hungry than the HB. I also had concerns about the towfish getting in the way when bringing fish to the boat. It works out ok though running it on a short tether off of one side and bringing the fish in on the other. It's also a one handed  job to lift it up into the boat.

Can those ram mounts they had on the stern be pulled up out of the way like a rudder?

Make some recordings and post some pictures when you get it setup. I'd like to what it can do and how you have it rigged.

Can bi adjusted tighter or loser to "bump" out of the way. 

Really don't want a tow fish as I have alot less room in a sit on top kayak, and the fact I'll just b drifting when using it.

Yea I'm not sure on power of each but it's safe to say the principle works despite what hb or lorance say.

The cheap $100 fish finders have been mounted like this for ages and all the same idea sound waves out then back in

The reason that our Si transducers cannot be mounted inside-the-hull of a boat is because the Si sonar radiates out of the sides of the transducer.  Standard (2D sonar) sonar units have the sonar radiate out of the bottom of the transducer which gets coupled to the hull and water.  If you could mount the Si transducer so that the sides of the transducer are acoustically coupled to the hull than it would work but I don’t know how well.  Someone here did some testing on this with a fiberglass boat hull and while it worked the images it produced were not that good as the sonar got ‘bent’ by the hull of the boat.  Now if your kayak’s hull is similar to the one in the link you provided it may work better than ours did and it may not.  Only way to tell is to try it yourself and see.
