transducer for trolling motor
« on: March 05, 2014, 03:06:47 AM »
I am thinking about getting another transducer for my trolling motor is it worth the extra money to get an HD verson,

I'm assuming your unit is the 798...

The 798 can only transmit the 455kHz frequency...

The XHS 9 HDSI 180 T xducer is capable of 455kHz/800kHz...

Even tho the 798 will not be able to use the 800kHz frequency...the images should be better simply because of the longer SI piezoes in the HDSI xducer...(longer piezoes = thinner beam)...

Now whether you can descern that difference in the small 798 screen is yet TBD...

I've read many reports of users saying they're glad they upgraded to the HDSI xducer on their 798...

I have yet to hear any reports of users saying it wasn't worth the upgrade to the HDSI xducer on their 798...

Thanks that is pretty much what I have read. I talked to a humminbird guy at a sports show and he had told me that I wouldn't get any better quality, but like you,  I have read many people saying it was worth it.

At one time there were some screen snapshots comparing the 455kHz Si from both the CSi and HDSi transducers… but I can’t locate them anymore.  I know that Soretoe had some but he’s fishing on the other side of the veil now.  :(

When I use the HDSI ducer on my 798 I notice that the sensitivity seems to go up (meaning that I can turn the sensitivity on the unit down and get the same results). The distance to the side seems to go out farther before blacking out also. Other than that, I am getting some really crisp readings no matter which ducer I am using.

Thanks for the review I think I'm just going to go with the standard one

That is due to the more focused (thinner) Si beams from the HDSi transducer Rotus.
