83 HZ 200 HZ
« on: October 12, 2013, 02:26:13 PM »
I just bought a new 798ci and a new 598ci the 598 is mounted on trolling motor and seems to be working fine, except no 83 HZ display in simulation mode. The 798ci is mounted on console. It also has nothing in simulation with 83 HZ.  and does not work in 200/83 HZ. It seems to be okay in 200HZ. Also on shutdown down when you hold power button in it says shutting down in 2 seconds but takes much longer and sometimes looks up. I swap locations with them and get same results, so I know it is nota transducer issue. Any thoughts on this?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums coldsteel.

The units may not have any data saved in them for the 83kHz in the Simulation mode.

On your 798ci unit, if you are not getting any sonar when it is set to the 200/83.kHz setting even when it has been tried on another transducer; then something is wrong with the unit itself and you will need to call Humminbird about getting it sent in to be looked at by the Techs.  I don’t know that this has anything to do with it not wanting to shut off correctly or not but you would need to mention that part to them also.

I was told by hummingbird cs that it will not show anything in simulation on 83 khz.
Get it on the water and see what happens.

You're right, I talked to them today and was told the same thing. Also was told they have discovered a flaw in the software and they told me to use 83 0r 200 0nly and not use the blended 200/83 until they issue a software upgrade to fix problem. I hope they fix it soon.

That would be great if he could find out when they are going to release the update to fix this issue.

We are not normally told about possible fix dates or new software release dates.

I just spoke to a very uninterested woman at Humminbird customer service. I asked about the status  on the software update for  the 598 ad 798 models to fix the issue with 83KHZ and 200KHZ in blended mode. They told me last fall that an update was being released and  to watch for it. Now almost seven months later, same story. I am  starting to wish I had gone with another brand. I spent close to $2000. on these two units. I would expect better customer service. Anyone else have any issues like this?

They have mentioned another workaround that you can select dual beam transducer for better 83/200khz results.  Just means you have to switch back to your regular transducer for SI/DI images.  Hopefully soon they will release something.
