Title: transducer mounting
Post by: troutfanatic on January 29, 2011, 10:29:12 PM
I have a 997 mounted on the transom and had a 570 mounted on the tolling motor. I moved the 570 to the console beside the 997 and mounted the transducer on the transom 5" from the 997 transducer. I wanted to be able to use the split screen on the 997 to look at my navionics map and side imaging  and the 570 to use sonar to look for fish at the same time. They work fine for a while and then go crazy. When I turn the 570 off, the 997 returns to normal. I know it is interference, but do not know why it doesn't happen all the time. If I move one of the transducers to the other side of the transom, will that clear up the interference? Thanks for any help.  :)

closley mounted transducers can reflect or interfere with multiple units.  We have this problem in
SAR when too many boats are running sonar in proximity to each other....

There are some transducers shields available but not sure of how much help..

Chuck.

Thanks. I may try the other side of the transom.

Spacing the transducers farther apart will only help a little as the sonar beams (200kHz 2D sonar) will still end up overlapping and causing the interference.  Try adjusting the Noise Filter menu on the unit showing the interference next time and/or manually selecting a different Lower depth Range than the other unit.

I moved the 570 to the other side of the transom and I do not have interference anymore. Great!!! :)
