Title: Question on GPS receivers
Post by: Watercat on May 21, 2009, 02:10:08 PM
How can one tell from reading a description of a 1197 or 997 unit whether it has a GR16, GR50 or GRHA gps unit?  Does the phrase 50 channel gps receiver with WAAS/EGNOS indicate one receiver of another?

Hello watercat,
Greg wrote something about this somewhere already, but I can't find this comment at the moment.
As far as I remember this phrase is for sure NOT a GR 16 receiver. I don't know for sure if this is a GR 50 or even an GRHA (HA stands for High Accuracy).

Yes, the GR50, is the 50 channel GPS reciever.  As of the end of 2008, units are now shipping with this standard.  The GRHA is the High Accuracy GPS Reciever and is an upgrade.

If the box says that it has a 50 channel GPS Receiver than it should have the GR50 inside.  Other than that there is no way to know for sure without opening the box.
The GRHA is an optional accessory and is not packaged with any unit we sell.

Now as far as what some compant puts in a description on a web site: that is out of our control and there is no way to be sure what you are getting as it could be a unit that was packaged before we started using the GR50 GPS Receivers.

Humminbird has the best customer serrvice!  If you want to trade in the un-used 16 channel or 50 channel receiver for a high accuracy receiver, I believe that they will for a few more dollars.
