898c SI trouble while installing update
« on: January 17, 2014, 02:51:45 PM »
Need help please. While installing the latest update on my 898 I accidently ejected the SD card in the middle of loading. Now all it will do is show loading & then shut down repeatedly???
Anyone have any suggestions please.

Thanks,
Lane

Lane, I removed your duplicate posting in the General forum. The 898 should get you the results.
You might be able to recover using your PC.  (Download humminbirdPC and hook up the computer to your unit)
HB updates are a bit funny and you may have to send back...
Lets see what others may add to this...

You might try reverting back to your previous software version....(I would suggest only 1 version of software on the SD Card at a time)...

What does the unit do if you power it on with no cards in either slot...??

I'd be pretty worried about it, you may have bricked the unit and only HB would be able to bring it back to life in that case.  The current firmware in the unit is erased and then reloaded during the update process.  If it erased and only partially reloaded........sounds bad.
You never want to disturb power or the unit in any way while it is updatiing.  I am always connected to a battery when updating to prevent a problem in case of a power bump.

The recommended process for reloading is to have the unit fully started up and then insert the card....If it won't start up, you could try inserting the card and then power up to see if it does anything......Otherwise give HB customer service a call.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**
