Hi,
I use my 797c to ice fish here in MN (the same unit is used in the summer as a trolling box (connected to a Quad beam) - my SI/DI/2D work is now handled by a 998c). To use one of these 700 boxes for ice fishing you will need a soft pack case (PTC U or PTC U NB (no battery)) and a iceducer (XI 9 20 (20/60 degree cones - 200/83 kHz). Note that the 60 deg cone is practically worthless for marking anything except the bottom!

I LOVE using my 797c for ice fishing. It keeps me sharp identifying fish on a graph box year around. It is also very useful in targeting fish in ANY part of the water column (as long as the bottom is greater that 10 ft deep).

Note: I do not use the Flasher screen for ice fishing. I find any of the graph screens much more useful for targeting fish (being able to see a history of lure position versus fish activity (looking back in time)) is very important.

Also Note: I would love to try that fancy (Ice Fishing mode ON) Flasher screen that you have available on your 798c (if you have the lattest software?). The only Flasher screen I have on my 797c is the simple one that has been around for years (like your Ice Fishing mode Off screen).

Have fun! It will be a BLAST.

Take care,
Roger

Hi,
My scroll speed setting is a compromise between seeing my lure movement versus how much "history" I want to see on the screen (you decide). Remember your lure will be a straight line (versus time) if not moved in the water column. As a brag I have tracked a #10 Gil Pill (local bait - I think it is 1/64 th oz) at the bottom of a 30 ft water column - no problem!  Some Ice Fishing tips I could pass on would be like, 1) keep your back light intensity as low as you can - most of your battery consumption is taken up in the lighting NOT the electronics, 2) on the full screen run with RTS set to wide - you will see returns that will not even show up on the graph screen, and 3) move up to a 9AH battery - I can get easily 12 hours running time (again if I manage my backlight intensity) - also bring along extra batteries for longer stretches on the "water".

Have fun,
Roger
