Humminbird Lakemaster chip won't load
« on: May 14, 2010, 11:26:43 AM »
New 998c software version 4.880. Got unit installed yesterday and out on lake, everything work great except.

Loaded Lakemaster chip with unit running with chart select on auto. All that shows up is the lake list, zoomed in or out no contour lines,or other chip features.

Chart pages show loading charts and stayed that way all the time on the lake.GPS Diagnostic view shows LKMasterEU in bottom right chart card box

TOM,
Is there someone else with a 998, 958, 898 or 858 unit that you know of that would allow you to try your LakeMaster card in their unit?

Live only about 40 miles from Lakemaster home,so took my unit and chip to there office and found out  the chip will only work if you go to Nav tab -Chart Orientation box and select North-UP.Won't work if you select Course UP.
\So good to go   Just in time for walleye opener in MN

Thanks  Tom

Now that is indeed interesting.  Did they give a reason or description of why it must be in the north up selection.  I would think course up is a more normal way of looking at the chart.
Curious indeed.

OK, thanks, I still find that interesting and have not heard anyone else with your problem.  Let us know how all of this turns out.

my chip seems to work in course up mode hoever it is very slow to load. once the correct zoomed  map is loaded, it takes 30 seconds to reload a different zoom level. Furthermore at certian zoom levels it bounces around like it can not tell which directiong your moving 30mph. ???

I am also losing the Lakemaster contour details, the display goes blank, and it
states “loading charts”. The chart display continually goes in a up load chart
mode and I lose all contour details (blank screen). I reset the to factory
default and I can restore the lake contour details but it quickly goes into the
same "up load chart" failure mode. Example of issue: When I am zoomed in at
1000 ft, 35 mph, and perform a goto or any other function.

I also contacted Lakemaster and they stated their is a software issue with the 998C SI. The Humminbird chart orientation needs to be set at North Up.

Lakemaster just updated their FAQ with the following:

Make sure your Humminbird GPS is set to North Up under the Nav tab>Chart Orientation Menu option. Currently LakeMaster Cards will not display in "Course Up" mode.
After checking and adjusting the above settings, you should be able to zoom into a LakeMaster Lake and see contours.

Now here is a problem that needs attention.
Who would want to run in a north up orientation when going in a southern diection. Makes the map harder to see where and in what direction you want to turn.
wonder why the two companies dont talk to each other.

Actually Chuck many prefer the North-Up orientation.  If you understand the relationship between the direction you are going on the map and what is left or right of you it’s easy to understand.  I guess some people get it and some don’t; like last night while racing RC cars some of the guys did not understand that when the car is coming towards you and you crank the control to turn right that the car moves to the left as it approaches you…

Anyways, our Engineers are aware of this map loading issue and are working on it.

I understand that it is not an issue for people using North Up Orientation.  What about the customer that prefer the Course Up Orientation. It is not that I do not "GET IT" it is simply my preference is a different setting.
