I will be purchasing an 998 soon and I wanted to know where should I put the transducer.I already have 2 Lowrance X-135 and one is in the trolling motor and trhe other shoots thru the hull.Boat is an 2006 Ranger Z-21 with a jack plate.

Transducers can be very sensitive to mounting location and performance.
Each boat type has its sweet spot for best operation.
It depends on what you want from your unit....for example, trolling speed vs plane speeds.
You might want to visit the Image Gallery by selecting the tab at the top of this screen and looking thru installation photos.
There is a lot of information on transducers varied thru out this fourm and you can use the search box at the top also.
You may want to use several search arguments to try and get most of the postings referencing your question.
Listing your boat type was good so that other replies can narrow donw the informaiton to your boat.
This forum contains a lot of good information and you will find great replies to your question from many of the great members here.

You are a prime candidate for the jackplate mounted SI transducer utilizing the Transducer Shield and Saver with the custom L bracket designed for your jackplate. No holes in the hull needed.
That system positions the large expensive transducer above the hull bottom for protection and allows for SI use at idle speeds.
The SI transducer has to be externally mounted to function with SI.
Very few ,if any, performamce bass boats have any success with a transom mounted transducer for on-plane depth reading. You have that covered with what you have now.
A phone call to that company with a description of your boat and setup will get you a top notch rigging.
