898 si screen turning green 6.49 software
« on: July 24, 2013, 05:39:00 PM »
Last Friday my screen turned green you could still see the bottom and fish but everything had a green overlay. Well I reset to defaults and it came out of it. On the next trip yesterday it worked fine all day I had turned it on and off a few time then all of a sudden it did it again this time the screen was blue but not like b/4 just the water column was blue so I tried to change the screen color and the sounder wouldn't go back to it,s original color even though it was an option. Both times the 898 did this I found a little piece of weed on the transducer bracket. Could that piece of weed make the processor heat on the mb which in turn would cause a corruption of the firmware? It would seem time is ticking on this unit which is always garaged and left connected. It's wired straight to a new battery with a spade fuse in line. I,m thinking switching the firmware then switching the firmware back to 6.4 because that firmware seems to give me a better picture. Opinions? Ideas?

Thanks in advance Gat

Gat,
I don’t know what is going on with your unit but I have been told that any amount of “weed” was bad for me!  :o  ::)  ;D

Grass or something on the transducer would not cause this.  Next time this happens see if you can get a screen snapshot of it, then call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about it.

Lolz  :) Thanks for the reply Greg I'll get out my good camera and the next time I go out I'll take some photos. I have the 858 in the front so I,m not totally out of luck. But I use the side imaging for boulder and rock identification mainly on the drops. I,m not sure if this unit is still under warranty. And I'd hate to send it in in the middle of the season. I'll post up a couple a pictures after the next outing.

Thanks again Greg

Gat,
Make those screen snapshots to the memory card in your 898c Si unit not camera pictures.  This will give us a better look at what the unit is showing you and also check to see if it is a video problem – possibly with the display.  If you see green but the screen snapshot looks normal on a computer than there is something amiss with the display of the unit.  Just trying to help the Techs out in case you end up sending it in for service.

By the way: you did sign your units up for the Humminbird Select Program (and get the extra year of warranty) didn't you?
