Helix 10 mega trolling motor interference.
« on: June 08, 2017, 11:36:46 PM »
Me and my father just recently installed a helix 10 mega on his boat along with a minnkota ulterra. When the motor isnt running or on high speed the SI and DI look great but on any other speed we get terrible interference. If i unplug the i-pilot link the interference goes away. The i-pilot link and trolling motor cables are run on seperate sides of the boat and only meet at the bow of the boat. I havent tried moving the wire away from the trolling motor plug yet. Was just wondering if there was an easier fix then drilling another hole in the boat. Boat is a sea pro 2001

The 1st step should be to determine if the interference is encroaching into the xducer/cable or encroaching into the HELIX power circuit  ...

This can be identified by separating the xducer and it's cable from the TM and test the xducer hanging in the water completely away from the TM  ...

If the interference goes away - we know the interference is encroaching into the xducer or xducer cable  ...
If the interference is still present - we know the interference is encroaching into the power circuit  ...

Either way lends to a path forward for dealing with interference  ...

I had the same problem and just posted what I found:

If you are connecting the Ulterra directly to your Helix and not using the AS ETH 5PXG network switch try grounding the metal barrel connectors where the Ethernet cables connect together to the negative of your cranking battery (assuming that is where your Helix is powered) -- I used an alligator clip and a length of wire on my to test

This worked from me after countless hours of testing anything that I could fine, hope it works for you - good luck!
