Topic: zooming bottom

I am new to an 1198.  Today i was fishing in 30 foot of water on erie.  I think i was seeing fish tight to bottom but wasnt sure.  Should i be zooming bottom or doing something else to try and figure out exactly what im seeing.

When viewing 2d sonar...::

Fish tight to the bottom would be better discerned with the 200kHz beam...

Setting the Lower Range to paint the lake bottom at the bottom of the display will make more efficient use of the screen resolution...

Setting the Upper Range to eliminate some of the upper water column can help also...

It is also possible to view the Sonar Zoom view which has regular 2d on half the screen ...and an adjustable "Zoomed View" of the other half...

Also setting the Chart Speed to 10 will help refresh the screen more often to see the freshest 2d data..

If you were viewing SI....::

Setting the SI Range to a smaller range will make all echoes on the SI image larger...

You can also open a Zoom box on the SI image by pressing the 4way cursor...moving the cursor to the area of interest...then press the + button repeatedly ...

Also you might want to switch back and forth between The Structure ID and Whiteline settings under the Sonar Tab and see which, if either, help show the fish tight to the bottom more clearly.
