Is the 858c HD DI marketed incorrectly?
« on: March 09, 2013, 12:37:12 PM »
Why is this unit being marketed as having Dual Beam PLUS, when clearly it doesn't have an 83 kHz frequency?

That's one of the things I don't like about the DI units.  They have dual beam, but it is 200/455 instead of 200/83.  This really reduces the 2D beam width.

Better than the other guys DI though....they don't have 2D at all on their DI units.

Although the stock transducer that is shipped with the DI units only has 455/800kHz Di and 200/455kHz 2D sonar frequency capability there is an optional XTM-9-WIDE-DI-20-T trolling motor mounted Di transducer that uses the 455/800kHz Di and 200/83kHz 2D sonar frequencies.

So, the 858 HD DI will generate the 83 kHz beam?  And, will using this ducer give me all of the Dual Beam Plus views tthat the 858 HD has?  Is there a transom version of this ducer?

Hey, I didn't know you could get that transducer for the DI units.....Thanks Greg.  That makes the DI unit more appealing to me.

Do you know if HB will do a trade for the standard transducer?

Yes, the 858c HD DI will generate the 83kHz sonar signal with the Connected Transducer menu set to the Dual Beam setting.  But this makes it act like a 858c HD unit (no DI sonar!).

Transom mount DualBeam transducer: XNT-9-20-T

They should do the exchange for an unused DI transducer for the DualBeam, but again: this makes it work like an 858c HD unit without DI sonar.

So, the 858 HD DI has all the screen views associated with Dual Beam Plus (split screen beams, fish id will show which beam its in, etc) with the DI ducer that comes with it?

No all of the same Views.  The only one that it does not have that I have seen is the combined 200kHz and 455kHz 2D sonar.  You can show either one by itself or show them side-by-side but not combined.

Switch the unit to the DualBeam setting (Connected Transducer) and you will have all of the same Views and menu settings as a 858c (or 858c HD) unit would.
