custom transducer mount for side image
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:05:04 PM »
I designed this mount for the 998 side image transducer.  I have had the ears break off of 3 of them last year and they are too expensive to replace.  This mount allows for the mounting of a new transducer or a broken one.  If your ears have broken off you can take it to a machine shop and have them install a hole 1/2" below the old one in the ears.  This mount breaks away and then will reset easily with the push of a hand.  The mount protests the unit by making it break away if hit from either end and takes all the stress off the ears and disperses the load of a hit through the entire body instead of just the ears.  I am just seeing if there is interest in something like this, please let me know what you think!

It is made from all aluminum and stainless steel components.  The side image transducers are $300 plus shipping when you break one.  I thought there would be a need by my fellow fisherman to reuse the broken transducer for less than the cost of replacing it, and have a superior mount!

Not sure of the price exactly.  I think I can come out on it OK at around $225, but would have to see what I can get the hardware and material for in bulk.  Stainless steel hardware is ridiculous, that's the business I should be in!

I had several PM on this, THANK YOU to all who offered advice.  I have worked with the places I am getting material and hardware from.  I am happy to let you know they will be available for $150.

I'm curious; since the transducer appears to be a little further back than original mounting, do you get much of a rooster tail when running at speed, and how does the transducer perform at speed with this mount?  Thanks
