Depending on the video, or article, or instruction manual you read the recommended location for transducer placement on the transom is all over the place.
I haven't seen much of anything in the way of transducer placement when dealing with a pocket tunnel hull.
Could any of you guys that maybe already has a helix mega sidescan transducer installed help me out here.
Hull Nauticstar 2110 with pocket tunnel.
Jackplate on engine.
Trim tabs on outboard edges
Humminbird helix 10 mega g2n
Im not against installing a second high speed transducer if needed but i'd really rather just install the 1 transducer humminbird provides.
is the second high speed transducer as good as the 2d transducer that humminbird baked into the helix sidescan transducer?

The 2d piezo in the Dual Beam xducer is the same as the 2d piezo in the MEGA xducer ...

Haven't seen many tunnel hulls come thru the forum and I've been here a long time :-0
A tunnel hull will be as challenging as a pontoon install in that the opposing float will most likely create a surface for the SI beam to reflect off of and create an hard "close" return on that side of the SI image ...
Adding a mounting board to get the MEGA xducer even farther rearward may help - may not ...
You may be best served with a dual MEGA xducer install with the MSILR Y cable ...

High speed depth readings (from a transom mount xducer) will depend on how water flows out from under boat directly in front of the xducer ...
Is this tunnel hull aluminum or fiberglass...?? (There are options for both) ...

Thanks for the reply i really appreciate it. I found some old picture of the back of the boat for ya'll to evaluate.
My hull is afiberglass bayboat deep V with whats called a pocket tunnel. Its just a small cheater tunnel at the rear of the hull. It does let me get shallower if needed but i dont make it a point to get shallow.
You'll see in the pictures below that space is kinda limited. The current garmin transducer is on the starboard side and i do get readings at high speed but it is just a 2d tranducer. I also notice sometime that it creates a big rooster tail and i have to push it back down. Im not sure if it is hitting something(doubtfull) or the mount is getting old and maybe water is scooping it up.
Where yall think i should mount the si ducer?

The xducer needs to be a low on the transom as possible for the xducer to be in the water when the boat rises up on plane ... Where the Garmin xducer is may be a 1st trial test ...
I would say you will have more difficulty with the trim tabs blocking the SI beams than the pocket tunnel being a challenge ...which still may have you lending toward dual SI xducers with the AS SILRY Cable ...
The SI beams reach all the way to the water's surface on each side ...
Test where the Garmin xducer is and post results ...

Well I think i'm just going to get the thru hull transducer for my high speed readings and this way i can move the si transducer around to get best image and not worry about hi speed 2d depth readings.
