As per the topic, can this be done?
If so, how?
Thanks,
Geoff

Try this:
- Save your waypoints on Google Earth as a *.kml file.
- Using GPS Babel (free program), set the Input to the “Google Earth (keyhole) Markup Language” file type [this is the *.kml file format] and the Output to the “GPX XML” file format and type in a name for the new file.
Hopefully HumminbirdPC will recognize the new *.gpx file and show all your waypoints.
Please let us all know if this still works or not and what versions of the above programs you used. Last time I tried this Google Earth was version 6.0.3.2197, GPS Babel was version 1.4.2 and HumminbirdPC was 3.2.2
-
Easy way:
Create a GE folder under My Places -
Right-click My Places, select Add-->Folder, then create the folder and name it.
Create all your WPs in this NewFolder -
Right-click NewFolder, select Add-->Placemark and the dialog box will open to create waypoint.
Name WP and move cursor to Lat/Lon position, click OK when done to create WP.
REPEAT . . . to create all waypoints.
Save waypoints to .KML file -
Right-click NewFolder, select Save Place As..., then save as a KML(not a KMZ) and save it.
Now use Gpsbabel or GpsVisualizer to convert this file to Humminbird .GPX or .HWR file.
Use HumminbirdPC to create the final MATRIX folder on a SD-card to import onto your HB unit.
Let me know if you need GpsBabel or GpsVisualizer help.
WARNING: If the GE created waypoint has no value in the HBPC Date-field, it will lead to a CORRUPTED .GPX file.
Solution: Upload the .GPX file to the SD-card, then download it immediately back into HBPC to create a new identical non-corrupt .GPX.
Then delete the old after verify data.
-
And you can do the same scenario to create GoogleEarth Paths and transfer to HB Tracks.
And do both concurrently.
-
Thank you Gents, that worked a treat! ;)
Greg, I used the following versions.
GPSBabel: 1.4.4
Google Earth: 7.1.1.1888
Humminbird PC: Build 3.0.26 2008-12-12 13:47
Hope that helps,
Geoff

I have exported my positions from google earth to KML file..
After that I have converted it with GPSBable from google earth KML to Humminbird (HWR)..
(http://shrani.si/f/1F/2c/vY5hD85/bable1.jpg)
If I try to open hwr file with latest version of humminbird PC I get Error..
(http://shrani.si/f/41/Ws/3jEsyKMU/bable2.jpg)
(http://shrani.si/f/3A/Mx/42bVdBMx/bable3.jpg)
If I convert KML to GDB and import GDB to HumminbirdPC all works fine..
(http://shrani.si/f/2K/ya/3cn9uSFH/bable4.jpg)
-
Peter,
When you the KML to HWR file conversion would HumminbirdPC actually open the file after showing the error message? If so, were all the waypoints there?
I don’t think that the KML to GDB to HWR worked – all of your waypoints are missing the data after the degree reading! LOL! ;D
-
;) I deleted lat/lon from the picture.... :)
If I export waypoints from google earth to kml file and then If I convert kml to hwr( with gpsbable) the error occur in humminbirdPC when i like to open hwr file... (I don't know if GPSBable convert kml to hwr in right format?!? but it has option to do it).
Maybe the problem is also in humminbirdPC?!? Why humminbird pc gives me alert error saying the selected file is not a gpx file when I have selected hwr file from file filter in the file dialog?!?
Try yourself to convert kml to hwr and then import converted hwr into humminbirdpc..
-
Peter,
When you the KML to HWR file conversion would HumminbirdPC actually open the file after showing the error message?
After warnning message that hwr is not gpx file i get this dialog:
(http://shrani.si/f/1h/84/4ZzT7LPj/bable5.jpg)
I can't import hwr files from gpsbable...
-
Peter,
When you the KML to HWR file conversion would HumminbirdPC actually open the file after showing the error message?
When you opened the .HWR file with HBPC above, the message "The selected file is not a .gpx. To read and edit HumminbirdPC will save it as a .gpx copy" is not an error. Just answer YES.
If all fail then convert KML to Lowrance usr then open this USR with HBPC.

Ok maybe the video will explain more than my words ;) (exucse me for background audio :) )
switch the video to HD..
Here in this video I like to import waypoints in hwr format generated by GPSBable...
Google earth to humminbird 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRxcWR061AA#ws)
Here in this video all work's fine because I converted my waypoints from google earth to gdb and then import gdb in HumminbirdPC..
Google earth to humminbird 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKvsDiOajy4#ws)

I see what is happening but do not have a solution. It looks like GPS Babel is not converting something into quite the right formatting.
I don’t have GPS Babel on my computer anymore. Is there an option to convert from the KML to the GPX file format (not to HWR) and if so have you tried it?
What version of GPS Babel are you running?
-
Now I have converted KML to GPX with GPSBable
the GPX (xml) content is
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<gpx
version="1.0"
creator="GPSBabel - http://www.gpsbabel.org"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd">
<time>2014-01-31T14:19:09Z</time>
<bounds minlat="43.237532888" minlon="14.244787404" maxlat="43.730071681" maxlon="15.117063646"/>
<wpt lat="43.730071681" lon="14.682603998">
<ele>0.000000</ele>
<name>a1</name>
<cmt>a1</cmt>
<desc>a1</desc>
</wpt>
<wpt lat="43.367662865" lon="15.117063646">
<ele>0.000000</ele>
<name>a2</name>
<cmt>a2</cmt>
<desc>a2</desc>
</wpt>
<wpt lat="43.237532888" lon="14.244787404">
<ele>0.000000</ele>
<name>a3</name>
<cmt>a3</cmt>
<desc>a3</desc>
</wpt>
</gpx>
If I try to open GPX file with humminbirdPC I get this dialog:
(http://shrani.si/f/1F/Tg/2hgHTNLA/hb6.jpg)
-
I don’t know then.
At least you can convert from KML to GDB to HWR and it work.
-
When creating from Google Earth to HumminbirdPC, I now use Gpsbabel to convert the KML to Lowrance USR.
Looks like Garmin GDB works also. I like to do this because it works and it does force HBPC to "totally" convert all data-fields to the GPX format so complete validation should be performed.
HumminbirdPC uses GPX version 1.1
If you attempt to convert from KML directly to GPX, then under Advanced Options you must set the GPX version to 1.1 or check the Add info(depth) as Humminbird extension(which forces version 1.1).
Make sure that the waypoint's date-field has a data are file corruption will occur.
Gpsbabel 1.4.4
HBPC 4.3.8

try to make it a garmin .gdb or .mps in BABLE , then import into HBPC.
in HBPC <File> <open> <select the file from BABLE> (.gdb, .mps, .lowor, .usr, or .hwr or .ht)
then make sure in the drop down menu <files of type> you select the corresponding file type. by default it is set .gpx but if you made a .gdb then select garmin.
hope this makes sense.

Hi guys,
Not sure what I'm doing wrong with GPSBabel but I get this:
-
Just export the kml (google earth) file to garmin gpx file... and then import gpx into Humminbird PC
-
Thanks Peter,
I forgot to mention that I tried that too, I tried everything people have posted in this thread.
-
What version of google earth you have?
From your image I can see that te problem is in kml file (which is xml file)..
Try also to export only waypoints without tracks from gpsbable...
If you wan't send me the kml file to peter.valencic@gmail.com.. I will check your file and send you back converted file to gpx..
-
Hi Peter,
Thank you for the kind offer but I'd like to figure out what I'm doing wrong, it's definitely a kml file, not an XML and there are no routes associated with the file, waypoints only.

This site (http://kml2gpx.com/) is super simple to use, and the gpx files it creates do work in HBPC.
-
Thanks Matt,
I worked with other files and they worked a treat so something was corrupt in that .kml file, in the end could convert it to .gpx but couldn't open it in HummPC, other files went well so I'll one day figure out what's wrong with that file.
Cheers.
-
. . . in the end could convert it to .gpx but couldn't open it in HummPC,
HumminbirdPC can only open GPX version 1.1 files. Most conversion programs default to GPX version 1.0.
In GpsBabel you must use Advanced Options to set the GPX version to 1.1 or set to add Humminbird Extenstions which will force version 1.1.
Most times I convert .KML to .GDB or .USR with Gpsbabel or GpsVisualizer, then open that file in HBPC.
-
Yeah I'll just use GPS visualiser from now on.
Not sure what happened to that file, it was created in ARCMap as a kmz, worked well in Google Earth but just wouldn't convert, I'll try it again sometime.
-
I have tried all of the above and I continue to get an error stating "There isn't any waypoint, route, or track information" whenever I try to upload from my SDHC card into Humminbird PC. I have tried GPS Babel and GPSVisualizer, multiple different output formats, using GPX version 1.1 in GPS Babel etx. The waypoints I have saved as a KML file on my desktop will immediately open in Google Earth when I click the file. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I may be doing incorrectly?
Thanks,
Mike
-
I kept trying different things and finally saved the file to mh desktop instead of the SDHD Card. Then I was able to open the file in HBPC and everything worked well.

Several YouTube videos show how to do it.
