Down imaging not working
« on: April 30, 2012, 08:09:29 AM »
I recently installed (Tracker Marine) a 597 ci hd di. First time out everything worked fine. Second time out everything seemed to work except down imaging...I get only a dark screen with the depth lines on it. called Humminbird customer service who sent me a new transducer that I could hook up and hold over the side of the boat to see if anything comes up on the DI view but got the same dark screen. As I mentioned, everything but DI seems to work...GPS and regular sonar, depth numbers seem fine. Any suggestions before sending the head unit back to Humminbird. I did do a system reset to default settings with no result. Thought maybe Greg or some user on the forum had a suggestion. Thanks. Charlie R

Check that transducer connections and power connections are tight.
Fully charge and load test your battery.
Look through your menu settings and set your max depth to auto or at least
10 feet deeper than the water you are fishing.

Make sure your down imaging view is set to visible.
Try changing the background color on your down imaging view and see if
it makes a difference.
If there is a transducer selection on your machine, make sure it is
set correctly.
I'd go through the menus settings thoroughly before going through the
hassle of sending the unit back to HB.

Have you tried the demo mode and see if the down-imaging is working there?

After using the Restore Defaults menu with the new transducer; if you do not see the Di sonar than I think it is time to send the unit to the Humminbird factory to be looked at.

One quick thought here: does the transducer look the same as the one you received in the box with the unit?  If not, than they may have shipped you the wrong transducer to try…

Thanks folks...I have done everything that I can think of that is reasonable. Greg, I did receive the correct transducer. Guess I will contact customer service and get a return number...it is under warranty. Not sure what happened..that pretty down imaging view showed up first time out but next time it just gave me a blank screen with only the depth and the lines.

I am having the same issue. No DI. I had my unit installed by the boat dealership. I have had several problems with them Not sure what to do. I am heading up to Winnebigosh next week for the MN opener. I want to get it working by then.

What I would do as a last resort before sending
the unit back, is to check the current version of the software.
If there's a newer version out, I'd update with it.

You have nothing to lose.
